Creative journey behind my abstract texture painting — from layering techniques and color blending to emotional inspiration.
Today, I tried something different, experimenting with texture by mixing sea sand with gesso, creating multiple layers of color. Each layer symbolizes the different facets of our inner selves, the thoughts, emotions, and traits that we store in our subconscious mind knowingly or unknowingly. Some are positive, some hidden or darker, yet all influence our actions in ways we often don’t realize. The top layer of white represents the outer mask we consciously present to the world, the version of ourselves we want others to see. Just as shifting the viewing angle lets the hidden colors in the painting emerge, in life, I notice subtle glimpses of our inner layers peeking through our carefully curated exterior, revealing the complexity beneath the surface.

Things I learned:
The very first element I worked with was the sand. I had different types to choose from, but I used the thick variety with more gravel, which added extra texture to the artwork.
I might have sprayed too much gold color, and when I immediately sprayed water on top and pressed it with newspaper to create a patchy texture, the paper didn’t absorb much of the gold, and I didn’t get the result I was expecting. The newspaper also ended up sticking to the surface. If any of you have tried this technique, please share your experience in the comments and how to do it correctly. Later, I tried using a dry cloth, which absorbed a little more, but still not much.
Here it is at the end.
